Original 6550 tube was developed by Tung-Sol back in 1955.
6550 tube was an American counterpart to european KT88 tube. As such, 6550 tube is the designer's choice in high power audio amplifiers in USA.
Notably, It was found in most powerful of the amplifiers such as Ampeg SVT and Audio Research VT200 to name just a few.
