EL34 Background
EL34 is a high voltage, high output audio power tube in a compact package. EL34 was used in classic Marshalls, known for its legendary British tone.
In HiFi audio, EL34 delivers exceptionally smooth mid-range, and is a very good match for female vocals and horns.
When to change EL34?
EL34 dissipates a lot of heat in a compact form factor. This invariably wears out the tube, causing it to lose both output and frequency response. It is recommended that you replace power tubes at regular interval to get best results.
EL34 alternatives
6CA7 and KT77 are drop-in replacement for EL34. They have different internals and different sonic quality, closer to that of beam tetrodes such as 6550.

KT77-JJ Matched Pair

KT77 is an excellent sounding tube now available from JJ. It is a faithful reproduction of GEC KT77 which was designed specifically for audio purpose. KT77 can replace 6CA7 and EL34 tubes.
Note: Early production of JJ KT77 had thinner pins which caused issues in amps with worn sockets. Our current stock does not have this problem.
